2013 Cancer Disparities Summit: Working Together to Find Solutions

An Event Review

The 2013 Cancer Disparities Summit: Working Together to Find Solution was attended by over 200 participants and presenters. Participants learned about disparities in cancer screening, treatment and mortality; how to improve cancer prevention, management and survivorship; and understand how to participate in initiatives to reduce the cancer disparities throughout Minnesota.

Our keynote speaker Dr. Otis Brawley presented on Cancer Prevention and Control in the 21st Century. His talk reviewed current clinical trends and focused on using scientific data to provide more cost effective care with better outcomes.

Day 2 plenary sessions were led by Erika Vetta from Minnesota Community Measurement, Patrick Tschida with the Minnesota Cancer Surveillance System, and Dr. Kate Wolin, Associate Professor in the Department of Public Health Sciences at Loyola University Chicago. Dr. Wolin presented on the convergence of obesity and cancer.
